Big Changes Ahead: My Journey to Oklahoma & Your Last Chance for a Session

Big Changes Ahead: My Journey to Oklahoma & Your Last Chance for a Session

It’s with a mix of emotions that I share some important news about the future of Boushie Babes Studio. Life is full of unexpected turns, and this is one of them. My landlord has decided to sell the house, and while I had a small hope that I might be able to purchase it, things didn’t work out in my favor. This leaves me in a tough spot where I have no other option but to move—not just the studio, but my home as well.

As many of you know, the housing market in the Pacific Northwest has become incredibly difficult for renters. With rising costs, I’ve found it impossible to stay in the area. So, I’ve made the difficult decision to relocate to the Midwest, to my mother’s property in Oklahoma. It’s a big change, but it’s also an opportunity for new beginnings. I’ll have access to 10 acres of beautiful land where I can build an amazing new studio and home over time. This move will also allow me to take some much-needed rest, reconnect with my mom and sister, and focus on creating something even more magical in the future.

But before I go, there’s still time! If you’ve ever wanted to book a session with me, now is your chance. We won’t be moving until likely March or April 2025, so I’m still booking sessions through at least February 2025! I’m offering a special rate of $299, which includes hair and makeup—a deal that truly can’t be beat. This is your last chance to book a session here in Sandpoint, so if you’ve been waiting for the right time, it’s now or never.

I want to be fully transparent: I’m feeling a little jaded with Sandpoint right now. This community has been my home, and I’ve loved every moment of capturing your stories, but life is taking me in a new direction. So, if you’ve been meaning to book a session and haven’t yet, now’s the time. After I move, you’ll have to come visit me in Oklahoma if you want that Boushie Babes magic!

I know this is a big change, but I’m excited for what’s ahead. Thank you all for your support, for trusting me to capture your stories, and for being part of this incredible journey. If you want to book your session, don’t wait—let’s make some magic before I hit the road!

With love and gratitude,
Accalia

Entangled in Nature: A Woodland Session with a Web of Wonder

Entangled in Nature: A Woodland Session with a Web of Wonder

This past weekend, we took things to the woods for an adventure like no other. Sharnai, our fabulous brand ambassador, my trusty assistant Edana, and I ventured out with a plan: an epic waterfall session… with a twist. And if you know Shar, you know she excels at doing things with a twist! She wanted to bring a Halloween-inspired vibe to the session—something spooky yet undeniably beautiful—and let me just say, we absolutely nailed it.

Shar has been shooting with us for two years now, and every session is a creative playground. We’re always down to experiment, and this time was no different. So what did we do? We grabbed some cheap spider webbing (the kind you find in the Halloween aisle), a few masks, some sheer curtains, and a handful of props. Sounds simple, right? But here's where the magic happened: who would've thought that basic webbing, combined with the right lighting, posing, and a sprinkle of creativity, could create pure visual magic? But we did it. And honestly, this set? It became both hers and my favorite of the day.

Now, let’s be real. A lot happened during this session—so much so that I’ll be writing another blog just to cover the rest of the magic. But this spider web set? It was something special. It was like the stars aligned (or maybe it was the trees) because everything just fell into place. The contrast of the delicate webbing against the natural, rugged beauty of the woods felt like a perfect metaphor—beauty entangled with a bit of mystery. There was so much to feel in this set, and you can see it in every shot.

As Shar and I reviewed the photos, we were like, “Ooo, damn…” and “Oh wow, this one is giving off serious Hollywood glam vibes!” We even had a few “OMG, this is the shot” moments. And let me tell you, when both the photographer and the model are feeling that kind of energy, you know something special has been captured.

So, here's a full slideshow of the spider web set, featuring Shar's favorites and mine. It’s a bit of a longer set, but trust me—it’s worth watching every frame. The mix of creativity, beauty, and a touch of eerie magic is something I’m incredibly proud of. Honestly, this might be some of my best work yet, if I do say so myself.

Be sure to watch the full show to get all the feels and all the flavors. You’ll see everything from dreamy, ethereal moments to glam shots that give off old Hollywood vibes. This set is the perfect blend of Halloween spook and sheer beauty, and I’m so excited to share it with you all.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes stories of what went down in the woods that day, because trust me, the spider web set was just the beginning.

Whispers of Want: The Dance of Desire

Whispers of Want: The Dance of Desire

This week, Boushie Babes, we're turning up the heat—seriously, is it getting hot in here? 🔥 We’re diving headfirst into those sultry looks, those come hither bedroom eyes, the looks that could melt even the iciest of hearts. Oh yes, we're talking about desire.

You know what I’m talking about: those steamy, intense gazes that make a photo feel alive with passion. Have you ever looked at a picture and wondered how on earth the pros make those come hither glances seem so effortless, so uncoached? Well, honey, I can’t spill all the tea right here, but let me just say—I can get you there. That's right, I’ll be your personal guide, coaching and directing you to master that you know you want this look for your session. Trust me, boo, I’ve got you covered!

But first, let’s break it down a little. What exactly is desire, you ask? Here’s a quick and witty definition for you: Desire – "That overwhelming feeling that you need something—or someone—right this very moment, preferably draped in a little mystery and a whole lot of seduction." It’s that slow burn, that magnetic pull, the thing that makes us lean in just a little closer, both in life and in photography.

So how does that translate into your session? Let me tell you a secret: desire isn’t just one note—it’s a whole symphony. And just like music, it comes in different flavors and volumes. Sometimes, it’s that quiet, smoldering stare. Other times, it’s bold and unapologetic, like I dare you energy. It can be soft, intimate, or downright fiery. The key is finding your range, and that’s where my magic comes in.

When you step into my studio, we’re not just snapping photos. Oh no, we’re collaborating to create art. I’m here to help you explore the spectrum of desire, guiding you to find your unique expression of it. Because everyone’s version of passion is a little different—what’s sexy and desirable for one person might be entirely different for someone else, and that’s what makes it so fascinating.

And while we’re talking body language, here’s another fun fact: Did you know that desire often shows up in the smallest of movements? A slight tilt of the chin, the soft parting of lips, the way the eyes linger just a second too long... All of these little cues add up to create the full picture of longing and allure. It’s subtle, but when it’s done right, it’s pure magic in front of the camera.

Just take a peek at the images below—what do you see? Those subtle curves, that playful glance, or the intensity in their gaze? These are all moments we can recreate together. My specialty is finding your unique flavor of desire and turning it into something truly unforgettable. Whether it’s quiet and smoldering or bold and seductive, I’ll guide you through it all. And by the end of the session, you’ll be feeling like a whole new, irresistible version of yourself.

So, if you’re ready to channel your inner siren and dance with desire in front of the lens, don’t wait. Book your session now, and let’s create some steamy, magical, one-of-a-kind shots that will have you saying, “Is that really me?”

Because yes, babe. Yes, it is. 🔥

Cultivating Confidence: Unleashing Your Inner Strength

Cultivating Confidence: Unleashing Your Inner Strength

Last week, Boushie Babes, I dove into the world of Joy, so it feels only right to turn our attention to Confidence this week. Now, let's be real—who doesn't want to look and feel confident? We all do, right? But how often do we actually feel confident? If you're anything like me, there are days when you have to dig deep and, yes, fake it till you make it. Sound familiar? I can't be the only one riding that wave!

Here's the thing: confidence isn't just a feeling; it's an attitude. The dictionary defines confidence as "a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities." It's about knowing your worth, and even more importantly, it's about showing it to the world. But let's face it—confidence can be elusive. There are times when it feels like you're wearing a mask, projecting strength you don't quite believe in yet.

Take it from me: in most of the images you see where I look strong and confident, I'm usually not feeling that way. At least, not at first. It's only after I strike a few poses or express a particular emotion that I start to embody the confidence I'm portraying. That's the magic of photography—it allows you to step into a version of yourself that you might not fully believe in just yet.

Now, you might be wondering why I have you mimic my poses in the studio, why I ask you to mirror me. It’s not just for fun, though it can be! It’s all about something called mirror neurons. Here’s a bit of science for you: mirror neurons are a group of neurons that fire both when an individual performs an action and when they observe the same action performed by someone else. These neurons are key players in how we learn through imitation and are deeply connected to the empathy we feel when we see others' emotions.

So, when I ask you to copy my movements, I'm actually helping your brain trigger the same emotional response that I'm showing. This means when you mirror my confident stance, your brain starts to fire up those confidence neurons, and before you know it, you're not just looking confident—you are confident. Pretty cool, right?

There’s a real science behind what I do, which is why it works. So, when I tell you to mirror me, trust that it's more than just play-acting. It’s about aligning your body language with your inner strength, even if it takes a few tries to get there. Thanks to my training with Denise Birdsong and the Stripped Down: The Art of Emotion course, I've got a deep understanding of the body language that screams confidence, and I can coach you into that space with ease.

And that, my friends, is why I can help you project confidence in your photos—even if you don’t feel it right away. The magic happens in that moment when you realize you’ve got it, that you are owning your space, and that the confidence is no longer just a pose—it’s you. So, whether you're stepping into my studio or just tackling your day, remember: confidence is more than a look, it's an energy. And trust me, you’ve got it in spades.

The Art of Coaching Authentic Joy: Insights from My Coaching Class

The Art of Coaching Authentic Joy: Insights from My Coaching Class

This week in class, we dove into the art of coaching for genuine, authentic joy. Yes, you can actually coach for joy in pictures and capture that real, unfiltered happiness. I often hear from clients that my photos don’t look posed—they look happy, genuine, and not forced. And trust me, my goal is always to avoid that "constipated" look or the overly cheesy smile we've all done a million times when someone says "cheese."

Genuine Joy is a state of being that allows one to experience feelings of intense, long-lasting happiness and satisfaction in life. Being able to capture that joy in my clients is priceless. In our day-to-day lives, we rarely get to see ourselves in moments of pure joy—everyone else does, but we often miss it in ourselves. Seeing that joy reflected in a photograph is a powerful experience.

There are different levels of joy too. It can range from a subtle level 1 to an exuberant level 10, and even beyond. Some of us are more level-one types, while others can go from 1 to 10+ in a matter of minutes. The beauty of it is that there’s no right or wrong way to express joy—all the flavors are okay.

Here are some tips I have to help bring out those genuine smiles:

  1. The Fake Laugh: Yes, just do it. As weird as it sounds, it works. It starts with a fake laugh, and soon enough, it turns into real laughter.

  2. Breathe: Most of the time, we hold our breath when taking photos, making our smiles look forced. Take a deep breath and relax.

  3. Part Your Lips: Ever so slightly parting your lips can make your smile look more natural and less posed.

Through these techniques, I’ve been able to capture moments of pure joy that my clients and I cherish. Here are some joyful images from recent sessions—each one a testament to the power of genuine happiness.

Seeing these moments reminds me why I do what I do and why I am passionate about capturing not just images, but emotions. Check out these joyful images below and see for yourself the magic of coaching for real, authentic joy.

Hot Weather Hacks: How I Beat the Heat in the PNW

Hot Weather Hacks: How I Beat the Heat in the PNW

So this week I am writing about ways to beat this heat. With August coming in hot, I wanted to share a few of my favorite ways to stay cool in the summer heat, along with some other effective methods. As someone who is heat sensitive, I usually have to stay out of the sun and avoid the heat like my life depends on it—because it can. Here are some of my tried-and-true methods to keep cool:

Go Swimming

My favorite way to beat the heat is to go swimming. Whether it's at Lake Pend Oreille or your favorite swim hole, there's nothing like taking a dip to cool down. Living in the Pacific Northwest, we're lucky to have so many amazing spots to go swimming.

Take Cold Showers

My new second favorite way to stay cool is cold showers. No joke, I take a cold shower every morning, and if I need to, again later in the day if I can't get to the lake. It really helps me stay cool longer and regulate my body temperature all day.

Use a Cold Rag

Another good way to cool down in a pinch is a cold rag on the back of the neck. I do this when I’m cleaning houses with no AC. It provides instant relief and helps lower your body temperature.

Air Conditioning

Speaking of air conditioning, it's 2024—you'd think most of us would have some form of AC by now, but it’s still considered a luxury for many. If you have it, use it! If not, try to spend time in air-conditioned public spaces like malls or libraries.

Drink Warm Liquids

An old wives' tale I heard on job sites is to drink warm or room temperature liquids all day, not ice cold. The idea is that your body has to warm the ice-cold liquids, while drinking warm or room-temperature things tells your body to cool down. It sounds weird, but there's some science behind it. I even asked my doctor, and he agreed!

Try Cooling Herbs

There are also herbs you can drink as teas to help promote a cooling effect in your body. Peppermint and hibiscus are popular choices. But be careful with this one—it can mess with your body chemistry if not done correctly.

Wear Light Clothing

Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made of natural fabrics like cotton. It helps your skin breathe and keeps you cooler than synthetic fabrics.

Stay Hydrated

This might sound obvious, but staying hydrated is crucial. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Add some slices of cucumber or mint to your water for an extra refreshing twist. Also, watermelon is a good way to stay hydrated and have a snack to…

Use Fans Wisely

If you don’t have AC, use fans strategically. Place a bowl of ice in front of a fan to create a DIY air conditioner. Also, remember to keep windows open at night and closed during the day to keep the cool air in and the hot air out.

Use Blinds

This may sound weird but open and close your blinds in the heat of the day, or as the sun comes over to that part of the house if you can or are home, if not just slightly close them on the hot days and this will help cool the house.

Avoid Strenuous Activities

Try to avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day. If you need to exercise, do it early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

Eat Light Meals

Eating heavy meals can increase your body temperature. Opt for light, refreshing foods like salads, fruits, and smoothies to help keep your body cool.

Cool Your Pulse Points

Applying ice packs or cold compresses to your pulse points—wrists, neck, and temples—can help cool your body down quickly.

So there you have it! A mix of my favorite ways to stay cool and some additional tips to help you beat the heat. Drop your favorite ways to beat the heat below and stay cool, Boushie Babes!

Oh, I almost forgot if you happen across any merfolk be sure to say HI for me…

Capturing Emotions: My Journey Through Selfies and Beyond

Capturing Emotions: My Journey Through Selfies and Beyond

Hey Boushie Babes,

Can you guess what the homework was this week? Yes, selfies! That’s right, I had to take selfies, or sometimes hand the camera over to my assistant, to demonstrate the core emotions we aim for in our sessions. This exercise helps me coach you, my clients, to express those same emotions and even more when you step into my studio.

So, what emotions are we covering this week? Joy, confidence (yes, you can coach for confidence!), coy flirtation, longing, states of pleasure, and states of desire. Sounds interesting, right? Like, how and what? No way! But trust me, after a few years of practice, it becomes second nature.

The fun part of this assignment is the continuous learning and growth it brings. By practicing these emotions, I not only grow as an artist but also give you, my clients, the agency to be who you are in front of the camera. It's about capturing the real you, your genuine emotions, and your unique beauty.

I’m sharing a slideshow of my full gallery from this homework, which showcases all my flavors, more than what’s taught in the class. I would love to get some feedback from you. What do you feel when you see these photos? What emotions do you see?

Your insights and feedback mean the world to me. It's through this shared journey that we all grow and become more in tune with our emotions and our true selves.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates and artistic explorations. Your support and engagement inspire me every day. Let’s keep this creative energy flowing!
Watch the full slideshow of my gallery of my homework this week below, don’t forget to let me know what emotions you see as well.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. Your love and feedback keep me motivated and inspired!
