The Power of Body Positivity: Why It's More Than Just Saying Positive Things

The Power of Body Positivity: Why It's More Than Just Saying Positive Things

Body positivity is a term that has been thrown around a lot lately, and while it's great to see the movement gaining momentum, it's important to understand that it's more than just saying positive things. True body positivity is about changing the way you think about your body and yourself.

Unfortunately, the wrong photographer can leave you feeling worse about your body than you did before the session. That's why I'm here to change the narrative and be more inclusive for all body types. As a boudoir photographer, I understand that my work goes beyond just taking pretty pictures. It's about holding space, being non-judgmental, and boosting my clients up in ways they haven't been before.

That's why boudoir sessions are more expensive than other types of photography. The deeper work that goes on before, during, and after the session has long-lasting effects on my clients' confidence. They leave feeling like a new person, seeing themselves in a new light, feeling sexy and like a woman/man, and feeling desirable again after life happens.

In addition to the photos, I also include affirmations to help my clients reframe the way they think about their body and themselves. Body positivity isn't about being toxically positive, but about learning to love yourself for who you are right now, while also working towards becoming the best version of yourself.

It's time to change the conversation around body positivity and focus on the power it has to transform lives.

Are you ready to join the movement and embrace your body?

Love yourself Series, post 24, Sam

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Let me introduce you to Sam, a Sandpoint native, and mother of a handsome little boy. She has been through a lot over the past few years, including trauma and the struggle of getting back on her feet after life knocked her down. Despite never having been professionally photographed before, she was determined to empower herself and see herself in a new light.

After booking a session, we met in town for her style session and discovered that our families had known each other for years - it's a small town, after all! We talked about everything she was going through, including finding housing and navigating the challenges of growing up in a scary world.

During her session, Sam was amazing! She brought props and fun outfits, which allowed us to capture different sides of her personality and show her in a new light. She loved all of her images, and I couldn't be happier for her. But don't just take my word for it, here's what she had to say about her experience:

She as a single mother had to do one of my very limited post-payment plans,( only have 10 spots available at a time, so they fill up fast.) So, almost a year later she finally made her final payment and got her products and online gallery. Here is her reveal:

Giveaway Series, post 3, Miss M

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Allow me to introduce Miss M, a client who preferred to keep her identity anonymous to empower others while maintaining her privacy. As her photographer, I respect and support her decision wholeheartedly. The image above and her testimonial will be the only time you see her face as she requested a more anonymous bodyscape.

During her session, Miss M was amazing and killed it! We captured a range of emotions and styles that were absolutely fabulous, but she decided to keep those images to herself. However, she wanted to be featured in a way that gave her bragging rights and the chance for one of her images to be entered for a cover or award. We selected several images that only show her body and not her face for this purpose.

Miss M booked her session after winning the runner-up prize in my last Giveaway. She needed a pick-me-up after going through a tough time, getting married, and finding out some major things were hidden from her and her children. She was struggling with her body image, having had kids and aging, and just needed to see herself in a different light.

Here's what Miss M had to say about her experience:

This is an example of anonymous shots…

Love Yourself Series, post #23, Shannon

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Shannon, a California native, has spent the last decade exploring and moving from place to place to build new connections. Unfortunately, she lost everything after her divorce and went through a rough patch. To make matters worse, she had an ectopic pregnancy that required surgery and left her with health issues. However, Shannon is determined not to let these challenges define her or affect her self-esteem.

Let's show Shannon some love and support because we all know how tough it can be. Despite everything, Shannon decided to celebrate herself by booking a session with me. And boy, did she knock it out of the park!

To make things easier, Shannon took advantage of my payment plans and broke down the cost into manageable amounts. I was thrilled when she finally paid them off, and I couldn't wait to deliver her images.

Here's what Shannon had to say about her experience:

Images from her session, are so beautiful.

40 Over 40 Series, #4, Amy

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Introducing Amy, a resident of Athol, who has been married for 16 years to a wonderful man who loves and cherishes her deeply. Despite having confidence, Amy has never really felt sexy or beautiful.

This feeling can be attributed to her traumatic past, where she was violated as a young woman and later married a man who cheated on her, leaving her feeling unworthy. Despite the hardships, Amy has persevered and found happiness with her amazing husband.

They moved to the countryside to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, and she spends her time volunteering to help the elderly and ensuring that kids have warm coats. However, Amy realized that she needed to take some time for herself and booked a pampering session for the day after Valentine's Day.

During her session, we had a lot of fun, and Amy opted for a more spicy and steamy photoshoot. The images turned out so well that I can not even share them on social media!

Here is what she had to say about her session:

40 Over 40 Series, #3 Jolene

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Meet Jolene, a 58-year-old goddess in her own way. She came in to celebrate herself and give a gift to her soon-to-be hubby. She even brought her wedding dress in for a few shots too. She almost died 5 times because of a gastric bypass to lose weight, and then she broke her ankle to top it off. She was a hairdresser for 41 years and now struggles with some things due to limited mobility.

She always struggled to do things she wanted to because of confidence, and the afterlife got her, she decided to take charge of her life and start actually living it and celebrating it. She found Boushie Babes, she drove up from Wallace and spent the day with me in the studio playing and having fun.

We had a blast during her session, she loved her images and the emotions we got. She was so excited for her hubby to see, that she brought him with her to pick her album up, and we had to keep more like a fast drop-off than my usual reveals, though he loved them. Here is what she had to say about her session.

Givaway Series, post 2, Sharnai

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Meet Sharnai, a young woman just really starting to dive into who she is, and not who the world wants her to be. She is learning to embrace herself on this journey of life. She has struggled with her body image as well, struggling with loving her body as it is instead of how she wants it to be.

She came in as a Giveaway Runner up and got a few extras for her session. As we were in hair and makeup we got to chatting and realized she works with another client of mine. We instantly hit it off and became fast friends. So much so that I start my moon meeting because of her asking for a safe place to learn and explore all things mystical. So, ladies know this I am telling you all this because I am striving to create that safe place for all to just be themselves, and be loved for just being not doing.

In this series within my blog, I will share individual client stories, that they have allowed me to share with you, in hopes of encouraging you to love yourself more right now not when. These are real women, with real stories.

Meet Sheryl, yes you have seen her before, she came in for a love your body session, and started to follow me, then she jumped on the chance to do another session with my Black Friday Giveaway I did.

She had outfits and had finished her leg tattoo as well as growing more into herself than she was in February when she came in before. She also had found a new romantic interest and wanted to explore who she is becoming even more so we did. She also retired and wanted to live more, and experience more than before.

During this session, she was more relaxed, and she fell into the guidance I was giving even more than before. So, ladies sometimes it takes more than once to find all your flavors. That’s why I always recommend coming in more than once to discover your flavors over time. Here is what Sheryl had to say about this round:

Meet Wendee, this amazing 60-year-old amazing woman who has overcome so much, when we planned her session it was summer, we were scheduled for the end of summer, and she was recovering from back surgery, so we postponed for a few months.

Then guess what a week before her session she finally got covid, so we pushed her session back again. So when she came in we were both super excited, and couldn’t wait to create art. She modeled as a teen in Japan, her life was one twist after another till she meet her now Hubby, who adores her. She hadn’t been used to being treated really well, so she had to adjust a bit, and now she was finally ready to celebrate who she is today!!!
