Embracing Light and Dark: A Session with My Brand Ambassador Sharnai

Hello lovely people!

This past weekend, I had an incredible session with my brand ambassador, Sharnai. Even during our content creation sessions, which are primarily for my portfolio, I always make sure my models have a say in what we do. It’s a collaboration, after all! Sharnai had been itching for an outdoor shoot after spending so much time in the studio. I completely understood—we both needed a change of scenery. With spring and summer in full bloom here in the Northwest, it was the perfect time to venture outside.

We decided to shoot on the property where Sharnai is staying. At first, she was a bit indifferent, having seen the place every day. But as soon as I set eyes on it, I knew we were in for something special. The day was overcast—ideal for photography. Bright sun can be such a mood killer with its harsh lighting, but the diffused light from the clouds was perfect.

Of course, the weather was a bit chilly and rainy, typical Northwest style. Sharnai gets cold easily, so we kept a blanket on hand and took shelter from the rain when necessary. She brought two dresses: a white one and a black one. She wanted to explore the light and dark aspects of her personality, embracing the full spectrum of her being. This wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about capturing the essence of who she is, beyond good and bad, just her true self.

We started with the white dress. The soft fabric flowed beautifully against the green backdrop. Sharnai moved with such grace, and the overcast sky gave her a gentle glow. But then came the black dress. It was striking against the vibrant scenery, symbolizing strength and depth. As we moved from one spot to another, we stumbled upon some horses. That’s when things got really interesting!

Horses have a way of adding a majestic touch to any shoot. Sharnai was thrilled, but also a bit wary. There was one moment where she nearly got kicked by one of the horses—yes, we got it on video! (I haven’t finished editing it yet, but stay tuned for that epic outtake). Despite the unexpected adventure, we got some fantastic shots. I even got to practice my photography skills, particularly the rule of thirds, and by the end of the session, I was nailing shots left and right. I couldn’t have been prouder of the results.

This session was a reminder of why I love outdoor shoots so much. They bring an element of unpredictability and raw beauty that you just can’t replicate in a studio. Plus, I get to flex my creative muscles and adapt to whatever nature throws our way.

Outdoor summer sessions are truly magical, and the best part is, we don’t need much space to make them happen. Whether we’re out on a beautiful property or right here at the studio, we can create something amazing together.

Part of my self-care routine involves physical therapy to get in better shape this year, and let me tell you, it’s making a difference. I’ve even added more cardio to my routine, even though it’s not my favorite.
